Michael J. Wren
I started my career in the investment industry in January of 1990.
From Jan. of 1990 to April of 1994 I was employed by Murphey
Favre, Inc. It was at Murphey Favre where I worked my way up
from the mail room in Spokane, to Corporate Accounting in
Seattle, to becoming a Registered Representative (Broker) within
those four plus years. I can say with a great deal of pride that I am
one the very few people in the investment industry that has
“worked their way up from the bottom”.
In 1994 I decided to leave the Bank Brokerage environment and
consequently joined the well-respected firm of Richards, Merrill,
Peterson, Inc. here in Spokane. RMP was truly a great firm to be
with, and I would still be there if my opportunity for advancement
would have been greater. That being said, I learned a great deal
by working at RMP and still communicate with them on a fairly
regular basis.
In 2000, I started Northwest Investment Advisors, Inc. as
President and 50% owner. I learned a great deal in the last seven
years and was able to grow my business, even through the
difficult markets of 2000, 2001, and 2002.
On March of 2007, I started my own sole-proprietor firm named
Wren Investment Management. The primary reason I made this
change was a desire to move away from the management
responsibilities of personnel I shared at NWIA and focus
exclusively on the relationships I have with my clients, and
investment research.
The biggest difference between me and my competition, and
therefore my biggest asset, is that I approach every aspect of my
business as an investor, not a salesperson. This is apparent in
the way I deal with my clients as well as the way their portfolios
are constructed. I am also staunchly independent and always tell
the unvarnished truth in any situation, which is also quite different
from the majority of personalities in my industry.
Anyone who listens to my radio show, “Smart Investing with Mike
Wren” will be able to tell that I concentrate most of the show and
most of the topics on the behavior and the psychology of the
average investor, which is where most of the problems begin
when dealing in the world of investments.

Soon after high school I entered a Law Enforcement program in
college. During my time there, my classmates (i.e. "guys a little
punch-drunk") pushed me on stage for my first stand up
comedy routine and I ended up opening for the shows
headliner, Carrot Top (who has yet to call me back for another
team up).
In 1999 I became a firefighter with the Newman Lake Fire
Department where I later earned my EMT certificate so I could
spend more time away from home.
I began my radio career in 2002 where I started Nearly News, a
one minute comedy-news special which ran for two years and
was heard on Internet podcasts and on Spokane's KDRK with
Jim "Big Cat Daddy" Diamond.
In the 6 years at Citadel Radio, I produced many more shows
including Investment with Mike Wren in which I later became the
co-host and "funny sidekick".
His Ed McMahon to his Carson. His Robin to his Batman.
His...well...you get the picture.
I have also worked on:
"The Mark Furhman Show",
"KGA Morning Show",
The Speed Sport Report",
"The Gonzaga Bulldog Coaches Show"
"Wham on Business"
"The drive at 5" on KGA
and logged many hours as a night time DJ.
Also, currently producing "The Deep End" on Spokane's KPTQ.
I spend most of my free time working for children's charities and
am enrolled in the very hard to get into 501st Star Wars
costuming group, that you've no doubt seen in the Rose Parade
and Disneyland, as a "Sandtrooper" .
My stand up routines have also been heard on the "Raw Dog"
comedy channel and even more Nearly News shows on the
Glenn Case Podcast.
I currently work off my court appointed time by producing and
co-hosting "Smart Investing with Mike Wren" and running a
website where I produce old time-like radio shows and Star
Wars commercials.
(Ya, I'm a geek and have come to except it.)

would be no math.".
